Like most painters I began painting individual paintings. I studied color, shape, line and subject/object. I put everything in a painting and began from scratch on a subsequent one. In time, my style took a distinct form and connected individual paintings to each other. I felt they lacked an relational quality, however.
I found I wanted to tell a story.
So, I began painting different bodies of work with a distinct theme and connection. Paintings within a series informed each other and the viewer of their contribution to that theme. My paintings were, at last, in conversation with each other.
Some paintings in a body of work speak loudly, while some are quieter. A few are even silent. All of the paintings in a series share a thematic thread and conversation, whether it’s winks, whispers or shouts.
